Peru, The Inca Empire, Urubamba Valley and your experience! The majestic Andes start at the southernmost headland of the Tierra del Fuego archipelago in Chile and Argentina, and follow the west coast of South America. With its high peaks and volcano’s along 4,660 miles they create a dense mountainous barrier between the Pacific Ocean and the Amazon jungle. The Andes end in the West Indies in the Caribbean and the plains of Venezuela.
Peru is located where this enormous mountain range enters the tropics, but its location still contains glaciers contributing to its balanced climate. Peru harbors majestic mountains and valleys as in few places on the plane. In its path you find sites such as Cusco the center of the Inca Empire, Urubamba The Sacred Valley of the Incas, and Machu Picchu, with its sacred geography.
The city of Cusco (11,220 ft) Considered the center of the world to the Inca Empire, Cusco was the home to nearly 100 ethnic groups speaking 20 languages. This community formed a vast communication system connecting the farthest reaches accessed by “chaskis” (running in relays) carrying knotted cards used to weave and unweave their memory. The city of Cusco itself is rich in symbols, ritual gestures and supernatural feats associated with the geography. Myths describe chosen places recognizable once specialized rituals were performed. The acceptance of these places by mother earth was noted by a rainbow, flash of light, or rain of fire once the ritual was complete. Stone markers are placed to signify an epic portion of these stories. We will see the carved face of Wiracocha professed to be frozen from the time of the land of the giants.
Urubamba Valley (9,393 ft) North of the city of Cusco is the Urubamba Valley, nurture by the Vilcanota watershed creating the Urubamba River. This river is the heart of the Sacred Valley of the Incas. From the river you will find thousands of Inca sites, passing by the foot of Pisac, the massive fortifications at Ollantaytambo, and down through the Inca Trail to the foot of Machu Picchu. Due to its temperate climate, fertile land, and abundant foliage, the valley of Urubamba is hailed as one of the most beautiful valleys on the planet.
This is the location where we will restore, regenerate, and learn healing. This is a special place for us to gain our footing in an ancient civilization amidst comfort and serenity. We will spend several days at this magnificent village K’uychi Rumi.
Each one of our Andean houses are uniquely furnished and have been professionally designed using various multi-colored natural clays. Each is two storied, with two bedrooms with bathrooms, a spacious living room with fireplace, kitchenette, dining room, terrace and balcony. All are fully equipped to offer comfortable, complete accommodation. Ample parking is provided as well as privacy and security.
Machu Picchu (7,710 ft) In Quechua it means Old Mountain and it was rediscovered by Yale archaeologist Hiram Bingham in 1911. It is one of the most beautiful and enigmatic ancient sites in the world located north of The Sacred Valley of the Incas at 7,710 feet of elevation. This land was forgotten for centuries by the outside world, although not by the locals.
Allegedly the city was built by the Sapa Inca Pachacuti, starting in around 1440, and assumed to inhabit until the Spanish conquest of Peru in 1532.
One of the Chilean poet Pablo Neruda’s best-known works is "The Heights of Machu Picchu", inspired by the city: "Machu Picchu is a trip to the serenity of the soul, to eternal fusion with the cosmos; there we feel our own fragility. It is one of the greatest marvels of South America. A resting place of butterflies at the epicenter of the great circle of life. Another miracle."
